Trezor.io/Start | Starting® Up® Your® Device® — Official Secure

Quick, clear, and color-coded guide to set up your hardware wallet safely.

Overview — Why Start Securely

Starting a Trezor device is the single most important step you will take to control your crypto keys. This presentation walks you through the essentials: unboxing, first connection, PIN & seed setup, firmware checks, backups, and safe storage. Follow each step carefully — hardware wallets protect your private keys from online threats when set up correctly.

Before you begin

Step-by-step setup

1. Unbox & Inspect

Confirm the package is sealed and untampered. Verify tamper-evident seals and plastic packaging before powering the device.

2. Connect & Open

Connect your Trezor to your computer using the supplied cable and visit trezor.io/start. Only use official pages for firmware and setup.

3. Install Firmware

If prompted, install the official firmware. Firmware verification is critical — do not skip this step.

4. Choose a PIN

Pick a PIN you can remember but can’t be guessed easily. Trezor requests PIN entry on the device — never enter your seed on the computer.

5. Write Down Your Seed

Record the seed words exactly, in order, on the provided card. Store this in a secure place (preferably physically separate from the device).

6. Confirm & Test

Confirm seed words when prompted and perform a small test transaction to verify everything works end-to-end.

Security Best Practices

Keep firmware up to date, never share your seed or PIN, avoid installing untrusted browser extensions, and buy your device from official or authorized retailers only.

Troubleshooting

If the device does not power or respond, try another USB cable, a different USB port, or power source. For persistent faults contact official support links below.

Advanced Options

Explore passphrase protection, hidden wallets, and recovery tools once you’re comfortable with the core flow. These features add layers of privacy and safety when used correctly.
